The case for a River Thames Cultural Vision

Did you know the Thames is home to 125 species of fish as well as seals, porpoises, dolphins and otters? Or that there are over 200 bridges, 27 tunnels, six public ferries, one cable car link and one ford crossing its entire length?

The Greater London Authority and the Port of London Authority have recently published a report, ‘The Case for a River Thames Cultural Vision.’ The research has identified 10 key areas of growth that they believe are achievable through a united vision. This report is the culmination of two years of fieldwork, workshops and discussion on the communities, culture, development, environment, transport, history and nightlife along the river.

The findings of this report run parallel to the Mayor’s draft London Plan which also identifies a desire to increase engagement with under-used areas of the river and to inspire Londoners with its heritage and importance.
